FAQ

Where is your office located and what is it like?

1776 S. Jackson Street, #105Denver, CO 80210

My office is centrally located for people living in Denver and the surrounding areas, and is easily accessible by public transportation.

There is a parking lot as well as on-the-street parking.

I am privileged to share the office with Macushla Hobin – a highly respected Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Practitioner and licensed acupuncturist, who specializes in pregnancy and post-partum conditions as well as pelvic health for both women and men.

We appreciate being able to offer a professional, peaceful environment for people to grow and heal.

What are your credentials and formal background?

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Colorado (CSW-00992157). I received my Master of Social Services with a concentration in Clinical Practice from Bryn Mawr School of Social Work and Social Research in 1993. I hold the American Certification of Social Workers (ACSW) and am a professional member of the Colorado Association of Clinical Social Workers. I provide clinical supervision to graduate students.

I have extensive post-graduate training and teaching experience in Narrative Therapy, Collaborative, and Depth Psychology approaches. Committed to ongoing study, I recently completed a program in Narrative Coaching, blending ideas and practices from psychology, anthropology, and design thinking developed by David Drake. I also have studied Dynamic Emotional Integration® (also known as DEI) — a trailblazing approach to emotions and empathy developed by Karla McLaren, that reveals the genius and the healing power within the emotional realm.

How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are 55 minutes. Longer 85-minute sessions are also available for those who find that more time is helpful.

How much does working with you cost?

Therapy/Counseling Services:
$140 per 55-minute session
$210 per 85-minute session

Coaching Services:
4-session package (1-2 months) plus email/text coaching in between: $525
8-session package (2-3 months) plus email/text coaching: $1050
12-session package (3-4 months) plus email/text coaching: $1900

Do you offer any special packages?

Yes! I offer a 10% discount for therapy packages of four sessions, if paid up front. For example, if you purchase a package of four 55-minute sessions, it is $504 instead of $560. That’s a savings of $56. This 10% discount is available at any time during your treatment. My coaching services are always offered as multi-session packages.

Do you take my insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance directly. I can gladly provide a reimbursement form for you to submit directly depending on your plan and benefits. There are many benefits to working with an out-of-network vs in-network provider such as: avoiding high deductibles, privacy of your sessions, control over your own health care, and decreasing cost.

Can I see you through my Employee Assistance Program?

I am currently a provider with Mines and Associates, a highly regarded Employee Assistance Program in the Denver area. (If you have a different EAP that is open to new providers, feel free to discuss with me).

How do I pay for counseling or coaching?

Payment is due at the time of service. You can pay with a credit card, Flexible Savings Account (FSA) card, cash, or check. For credit card payments, I use a confidential HIPAA-compliant payment system.

Do you offer any discounts?

I have a few sliding scale appointments for therapy clients who cannot afford to pay my normal rate but would like to find a way to work with me. If you have limited funds, please contact me to see if this is available, as these tend to fill up quickly.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

I understand that sometimes things come up unexpectedly. I kindly ask that you provide me with at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Any cancellations less than 24-hours or “no-shows” will be charged the full session fee. True emergencies that occur within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment will be waived upon review.

What happens in the first session?

We do most of the paperwork upfront through my online secure client portal so that during your first session we can focus on getting to know one another and begin creating a warm, trusting connection. We will discuss the challenges that brought you through the door and start to explore where it is you want to head. My clients frequently report that after the first session, they experience more ease and clarity.

How long will the process take?

There is really no fixed answer to this. Many of the people who work with me make great strides in overcoming challenges in as little as 3-6 months. Others stay on longer to create long-lasting foundational shifts. Some people find that more frequent, consistent sessions in the beginning can build good momentum in addressing emotional pain and other issues. Many who have worked with me intensively in the past choose to set up sessions periodically as needed for ongoing self care ”tune-ups.”

We will continually assess how our work is aligning with your plans for forward movement, growth, and healing. Otherwise, therapy and coaching can be endless and ineffective without a clear destination in mind, and I want to make sure you get the most out of your investment.

Do you offer therapy and coaching services online?

Yes I do. My license allows me to practice live online therapy throughout the state of Colorado. This works well for clients who want to work with me who live in other areas of the state, including remote rural areas where services may not be readily available. Online therapy is secure, confidential, and encrypted.

In my coaching practice, I am able to offer teleconferencing to people around the country and throughout the world.

What about privacy and confidentiality?

All conversations you have with me are completely private and confidential. There are a couple of exceptions: if I think you are a significant threat to yourself or someone else, if I suspect child or elder abuse, if I get subpoenaed or court ordered by the legal system, or if you need an ambulance.

With whom do you work?

I see people 16 and older from all backgrounds without regard to race, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic status, familial status, disability, faith tradition/spirituality.
