About

I believe in the power of effective help.

So often, we are taught to believe that our challenges and pain belong to us alone and say something about who we are rather than what we are burdened with. The problems you face don’t have to be dealt with alone and don’t make up all of who you are.

Renovate your life.

Therapy and coaching is something like building on a room addition, but the renovation is to your life. Your “remodel” can start with difficult emotions like depression, anxiety, or grief, which can be hard to move through.

Or, it might be a difficult life transition – a death, the loss of a job, the end of a relationship, children leaving home, young adults balancing new independence. Maybe it’s hard to identify, but it’s just that something feels off track.

Obstacles can signal future openings.

Like most renovations, once you start, there can be surprises. Sometimes, exploring an issue can lead you to unexpected places in yourself where healing can happen and deeper understanding, self-acceptance, and authenticity are found.

It takes courage, patience, and effort to activate change. But, once this new “space” is created, it can house your new story, a place where your full humanity and gifts can come to life.

You can then emerge with:

  • Concrete gains in terms of the issue you originally found challenging
  • New skills, ways of thinking, and networks that can sustain your desired changes
  • Clarity about your aspirations, strengths, and definitions.
  • A sense of resilience, which will leave you better prepared to handle whatever situations life throws at you.

About Me

I have been a practicing therapist, clinical supervisor, and program director for over 25 years. In addition to being a practicing therapist, I have worked in community mental health settings, hospice care, and the nonprofit sector in arts and education.

I’ve had the opportunity to be trained in diverse collaborative therapies and have found that problems can be best addressed and transformed by restoring buried strengths and emotional resources. I use the wisdoms of Narrative Therapy, Depth Psychology, and emotional awareness in my work. I am also mindful of cultural norms and societal injustices that can impact personal issues.

I was privileged to have trained directly with the late Michael White, a pioneering thought-leader and one of the founders of Narrative Therapy. His work inspired me to develop a public, community-based practice alongside my private practice, as they can inform one another in important ways.

In addition to my private practice, I also offer public workshops and am the Founding Director of CommonChord Project, a summer institute for teens combining intergroup work, empathy development, and songwriting.

I am grateful to have lived in Denver for 20 years; and I love spending time with my husband, teenage daughter, and one-of-a kind dog. I’m ever-curious about the world, my place in it, and my own unfolding to become more myself. One of my unique gifts is being “lyrically wired,” meaning I can typically bring a song to mind that speaks to any situation in the human condition. I love to incorporate music, poetry, and creativity into my work.
